Body & Mind

The doorkeeper shakes your hand
Shoots you a small glance
He's on your side now
Ready with his skeleton key
That opens up bodies and finds their bones
Your body is a mere vessel and you're stuck behind the controls
Your make and model you never chose
Most are sufficient

The mind is you, thick and thin
That's the center of ageless sin
For nobody has the power that you possess
Right and wrong are merely a test of minds that know nothing in between
The shades of gray are defining
But don't wait around for the silver lining
That's the hope of fools
Your cloud is lined with whatever color you damn well please
Because it's your sky and your clouds and your palette

Ask around, do they see?
Have they the thought to become me?

Ebb and Flow

Once something drastic happens in your life (for better or worse), you change. Maybe you only change slightly. Maybe you turn into a whole new person altogether. Either way, you must continue onward and upward, trying to maintain your happiness all the while. You can't change the past, but the goal should be never wanting to in the first place.

Reeling a Moment

In a simple room, a man lets go of the day's pressure and stress. He finds himself wondering why each lapse of time seems to feel exactly the same once it's completed. Why does the World seem to put itself on repeat day in and day out? With so many questions, the room becomes more complex. Each breath he takes seems to become more challenging. The wallpaper (a quite beautiful shade of indigo) becomes trite and foreign, while the carpet looks like an Egyptian cloth draped over a mummified corpse. This was discouraging, so he walked outside into the soft moonlight. There, he was confronted by a nosey neighbor who could clearly notice that our main character was bothered.

"Sir, your face does look certainly peculiar in the night sky. Is everything okay?" the neighbor questioned. With nothing to respond, the man picked a meaningless star in that great solar system and gazed for what seemed like an eternity.

"I wonder if there is a version of myself staring back on that distant World," he muttered aloud. As he turned, the neighbor was gone. He was actually quite relieved to be alone again after a day of relentless humans hounding him and asking him questions he didn't care for. And so, he walked along the street for a while.

Time hurried by as it always seems to do, but it was a night to be outside and to remember how beautiful the air can be when you're alone without a purpose. He walked until he was inside an unfamiliar wood, surrounded by nature. The man found a cozy, soft spot underneath an old oak tree. He hummed foreign melodies to himself until he discovered that the forest around him had been providing a choir-esque backing vocal the whole time. It was mysteriously intimate. He stopped abruptly.

"Where did you all learn to sing like that?" the man yelled into the wood. Just then, the giant oak he was seated under scooped him up in one swift motion with its most gigantic branch and raised him high above the treetops. Although he wasn't the most fond of heights, the oak tree had a sort of drowsy and calming affect on him.

"Do you see that faint star over there?" the tree bellowed as it pointed into the night sky with another branch.

"You mean that star?" the man wondered as he looked at the same star he had singled out before.

"That star gave us our voices. It is the only thing we have," the oak explained. The man smiled, for he now saw his reflection in the glimmering star. His expression turned to pure awe. He began to rhyme:

"There I am, starry night!
And all the tales of doom turned bright
While I have found my place in thee
I'll always feel not lost, but free

Instead a hollow wood shown true
And left a man with much to do
I think my time has just begun
For now I'll live amongst the Sun"

Venture with Reality

As I sat crossed-legged on my couch, I understood the meaning of freedom. This feeling of total relaxation could be accredited to the copious amounts of loneliness I had ingested five hours earlier. Even so, I was happy. Right at that very moment, my heart fluttered. That was the first time I experienced serious pain. The numbness set in and I wondered if anyone else in the World was hungry like me. Hungry for fortune and fame. I know all of that is bullshit but I'm interested. I want to know if I could last. If I could succeed. I guess it's hard to find out when you can't relate to yourself. Or talk yourself out of certain situations. You know what I'm talking about. Reality.

The Days of Years Passed

Right at this very moment, you're probably sitting there alone reading this. Who am I to judge? I'm sitting here alone writing this. That makes you equal. I'm never above anyone who reads my writing. Sometimes they are floating far above my equinox.

Yesterday I realized how small I was. I climbed the tallest tree in my neighborhood and looked around for about a half hour. When I climbed back down, I felt so miniscule. My World was nothing anymore. I jumped into the nearby creek and stayed underwater for years. When I emerged, my whole family stood around the sandbar to cheer me on. I did my best to show off, but I was too stiff from the time warp to try and do the butterfly. I carried on with my life effortlessly after my days in the creek.

A century passed. Days turned into seconds. My beard was full again three minutes after each shave. Was I Rip Van Winkle? Was I just lucky? No. All I needed was a drink.

Remembering the Flow

I've been listening harder to the wind this time of year. It seems to sing a more familiar tune, one that I have become used to. If you had asked me the name of the song a few years ago, I would have promptly asked

Milk

My only thought was to milk the time. Maybe if I did, I would be able to use it for good instead of the obvious evil. I proceeded with the thought until I was able to obtain a stool and the proper milking supplies. After the process was complete, I took my newly appointed watch to the store and the man hand-crafted me this leather band so I was able to attach it to my wrist and look anytime I wanted. Each hand was microscopically woven with the hairs of rodents and if you looked closely, there were tears from the raccoons on each individual strand. I started to realize that each day grew increasingly more difficult with each milked minute. Was it going to last, and was I going to be able to sleep again? These two questions were asked over and over and over on a loop in the biggest vein in my brain. Sometimes the vein hurt because it was being strained by ecstasy on a somewhat reoccurring basis.

Melatonin and sugar diet the next day. I was roasted before I even got out of bed. Torched. I used to keep a journal by my bed in case any good ideas came in a flash. They didn't that day. I kept thinking about real life. Something I wished I knew nothing about. Shame. I knew so much about what was really going on and how I was REALLY going to have to pay a person to go to court for me and how I was REALLY going to have to stop smoking but at least I wasn't REALLY dead inside. These thoughts kept me human. All those moments that I hated and the moments that I still dislike, they keep me sane actually. How can I have happy moments if you never have the sad ones to compare them to? It's not possible. Maybe in the world I really wanted, those things didn't exist. You only knew how to breathe. But I would probably trade every happy moment and just have the negatives if I was going to get nothing instead. Nothing would make me drowsy and weak.

Moving on, have you ever heard of phantom limb syndrome? It's this sensation people with amputated limbs and organs feel. It's like your old limbs have come back to visit for a while. Usually, they aren't welcome because all they do is nag you to be back for good but they know they really just won't work anymore. When I lost my mind, I think it tried to come back a few times. I couldn't reconnect the circuits or anything though so it gave up and floated back to Malibu. Then there was the month where all I did was drink rum and eat melons. Sometimes I ate the melons and then drank the rum but mostly I hated myself. Something must have come into view though, because I've felt euphoria from then until now. It helped when I started doing Velatium, or "Fovosaur". I ordered it from Turkey and they are pills that help me out. I'm happy wherever I go!
